Myanmar-June2019 visit-Mandalay to Monywa (Part 2-Po Win Taung Cave Temples and Shwe Ba Taung)

Today, we have a the whole day to cover the balance of Monywa's remaining attractions, hence, with time on our side, we started having quite a good breakfast in the hotel, then when the driver arrived, we first moved to the local morning market to buy some stuffs, nothing specific but whatever that comes along. One thing that I see is there are many gold jewelries shops around, and they are not even guarded. And Burmese basically like gold a lot. And the fruits and vegetables are relatively cheap, and some of us bought something. I bought something too from the market.

One Diamond Mango, tasty and delicious

After the morning market, we moved to the famous Monywa murals, Po Win Taung Cave Temples and Shwe Ba Taung, and I think a lot of conservation needs to be done to get it ready for tourism. It is a must visit place, because this places are full very rich in history, which I am not going to delve into details (please google and you can learn a lot about this place) but suffice to say, it is close to 800 years at least. I think it is quite similar to the one you found in Mogao, Gansu (China) and Longmen Grottoes in Luoyang, Henan, China. All are about the early development and spread of Buddhism in Asia regions, hence the visit here is an eye opener and very meaningful. But be careful of the wild monkeys around this area. And to understand this place better, I think one needs a local tour guide or otherwise, you need to download all relevant information from Google. And transportation wise, need a chartered car of taxi to take you here as it is quite in a rural area and it is not convenient to take any public transport to reach this location. Anyway, it is a worth and must visit place.
